A charming detached house with a terrace in the historic centre of Modica
A detached house situated in the historic centre of Modica, just a short walk from Corso Umberto, the town′s main street.
Spread over two floors, the property stands out for the elegance of its refurbishment. Abundant natural light streams through the windows and floods the rooms at all times of the day; the internal courtyard, onto which the front door opens, is paved with local stone laid in the ‘opus incertum′ style, known as ‘cuticci′. The two floors are connected by a masonry staircase that retains its original paving of pitchstone slabs.
The layout of the rooms has been redefined whilst respecting the house′s original structure. The kitchen and the living/dining area are situated on the first floor, adjacent to the terrace, allowing residents to make the most of the outdoor spaces and enjoy the pleasant surroundings. All the materials used in the restoration are typical of local tradition: Modica stone, pitch stone and natural pigments envelop the rooms and are incorporated into a simple yet elegant design.
The house comprises two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a kitchen adjoining the terrace, and a small study with a relaxation area, all on the first floor. The ground floor opens onto the patio and a cave that has been restored, lending a special charm to the whole space.
The property is approximately 18 km from the sea at Marina di Modica, 38 km from Noto and around 128 km from Catania ‘Fontanarossa′ International Airport.
