tucked beneath the trees in historic okara lakes, ′perry′s place′ is a distinctive 1921 seasonal camp with more than a century of adirondack history behind it. featured in adirondack life: at home in the adirondacks 2022, rustic style, the property was identified as a magonigle-designed camp and highlighted for its striking architecture, original character, and connection to the surrounding woods. okara lakes traces its begin nings to 1920, when the de camp family began developing the area through ga-wan-ka as a private adirondack vacation community. noted architect h. van buren magonigle helped shape its early design vision, which included japanese-inspired cottages with distinctive rooflines. the begin nings of this community of private camps are now commemorated by a william g. pomeroy foundation historic marker. set on a .77 wooded acre lot, perry′s place offers 888 sq. ft., 3 bedrooms, and 1 bath. inside, hardwood floors, original details throughout, and a fireplace at the heart of the living space preserve the unmistakable feel of an early adirondack camp. the enclosed porch with new windows offers a comfortable place to relax among the trees, while lake tekeni is just a short walk from the backyard. a detached shed/bunkhouse offers useful extra space and adds to the camp′s character. updates over the years include a newer metal roof, cedar-shake exterior work, porch and pier repairs, a bathroom renovation in 2018, bunkhouse roof replacement in 2015, a septic system installed in 2021, and fireplace and hearth repairs completed through march 2025. perry′s place is not a modern recreation of adirondack camp life. it is an authentic piece of okara lakes history, with distinctive architecture, a peaceful wooded setting, lake tekeni close by, and a story that began more than 100 years ago. 148 onekio road is ready for its next chapter.
