when the english owner of woodhill house was a young boy he
visited new zealand relatives often and was quite taken by our wooden houses
with their tin rooves.
so not surprisingly, when he and his wife came to live
permanently in new zealand they looked for a site to build a wooden house with
a tin roof here in the picturesque waimauku countryside they found a 2.3 ha
(more or less) site where they could orient a farm house around the mesmerising
views that overlook kaipara harbour, the valley and the kaipara river.
the views from this legacy property and the timeless quality
of the build will capture your heart. stunning stands of kahikatea, puriri and
kauri bring tuis, kereru and other birdlife to this country world that is only
a 45-minute drive from auckland cbd.
the owners asked architect brent hulena to collaborate and
help them design a home that honoured classical georgian principles. vistas
from all four compass directions have been captured. the brief was to
accommodate the owner’s art collection and their antique furniture.
the result is a gracious 20-year-old beautifully built lodge
like home of 432 sq m of living and 147 sq m of verandas that offers formal
and informal living, four bedrooms, a study and the owners favourite room, the
library. the master bedroom area could be self-contained for an elderly parent.
the garage is internally accessed and has a very large
bedroom above it. a relative, a live in nanny or fortunate teenager might
cherish this space. this room is easily divided into two bedrooms.
this sanctuary overlooks a croquet lawn that was created
under the supervision of nz sports turf institute to ensure sufficient drainage
and perfect contour. you might be convinced this prized croquet lawn is
suitable for marquees for romantic celebrations. a deliberately hidden from
view heated swimming pool sits below this lawn.
this desirable area of auckland offers popular wedding
venues, wineries, golf courses, horse riding and muriwai beach.
there is the opportunity to purchase, perhaps at a later
date, the parcel of approximately 2 hectares of land in front of the home.
shortly before you reach woodhill the road is gravel, so you
really will know you are in the countryside.
car park: double garage plus 8 extra parking spaces
