Different from the historical city center of Paris, La Défense is a Metropolitan area; not only is it the main commercial area of the Great Paris, but also of all Europe and at the same time, symbolizes France’s economic prosperity. La Défense is an international commercial hub with 3,600 enterprises located in it, including 1,500 corporate head quarters and the top 500 French enterprises. Together with New York Manhattan, the City of London, La Défense is one of the world’s three major CBD. The Basilica was built in the late eighteenth century, a monument to thank for the end of the Franco-Prussian War and commemorate the sacrifices in the war. Though it has been over 100 years since its establishment, the building uses a special type of tufa that whenever it rains, the stones secrete a white substance to purify the appearance of the church, for the Basilica is also known as “the White Church”. As it locates in the highest point of Paris, the Basilica is the best location to overlook the city of Paris, giving its visitors a different kind of peace both day and night.     新凱旋門 新凱旋門，其全名為拉德芳斯新凱旋門，是位於法國巴黎西部拉德芳斯商業區之地標建築，與艾菲爾鐵塔同為法國最具影響力之現代建築之一。雖同稱為凱旋門，但有別於大眾熟知之凱旋門，新凱旋門並不具軍事勝利意義，而是具有著人類與人道主義理想的紀念碑，為紀念法國大革命200週年而建。建築物於1989年八月底開始對外開放，且曾於此舉行七大工業國組織高峰會。現今建物的兩側皆為政府機構辦公室，屋頂部分則為展覽中心及觀景台，訪客可搭乘新凱旋門兩側之透明全景觀光電梯至頂部一覽巴黎市中心的美景。 了解更多   Grande Arche The Grande Arche, also La Grande Arche de la Fraternité, is the landmark in the La Défense business district in western Paris, France; with Eiffel Tower, it is also one of the most influential modern buildings in France. Defferent from the Arc de Triomphe, which is well-known to the world, the Grande Arche does not have a military victory significance. It is a monument and building with the ideal conception of humanity and humanitarianism, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. The building was opened to the public at the end of August 1989 and once held the meeting of the “Group of 7”. Today, both sides of the building are government offices and the top is an exhibition center and observation deck.
